Self-Evaluations (mx)

Whether we realize it or not, we tend to evaluate our performance each day based on a predefined set of criteria.

These values are based on performance standards and expectations that we have of ourselves in various situations and scenarios.

When our performance surpasses our expectations, we tend to be very encouraging and supportive of our results and progress. In fact, that voice in our heads becomes our biggest cheerleader. However, when we fail to live up to our expectations and performance standards, that voice becomes our biggest critic.

Self-evaluations are most commonly comprised of an internal dialogue we have with ourselves that moves through a process of asking and answering questions.

Oftentimes, when your back is against the wall it’s easy to fall prey to the influence of your critical voice. And yet, the power it has over you is only an illusion of control. You, actually hold the control and the means to soften that voice, to distance yourself from it, and to turn it into a friend, not foe.
