A Flow State is a mental state that effectively merges action with awareness. It’s a state where you are fully involved, immersed and committed to the task at hand with focused concentration, motivation and energy. It’s as though you’re working on auto-pilot experiencing no conflicts or contradictions.
Within this state your worries become irrelevant and your sense of self disappears. It disappears because you’re completely absorbed within the present moment. In fact, you’re so absorbed within the activity that time becomes insignificant and somewhat distorted. As a result things come naturally and flow effortlessly your way, which leads to incredible mental clarity and a sense of joy and wonder.
The idea of the Flow State was introduced by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi in his book Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience.
